Germline genetic testing is one of the most powerful ways to prevent cancer and detect it earlier — but many oncology teams don’t have the capacity to implement it effectively. Despite clear clinical guidelines, most programs struggle to identify eligible patients or move them through a referral-based process. A JAMA study found that only 6.8% of eligible cancer patients undergo germline testing after diagnosis.

At Cancer Care Northwest (CCNW), that story looks different. Their oncology team is not only identifying eligible patients but also closing the loop — ensuring testing actually happens. By replacing a traditional referral model with a point-of-care testing approach, CCNW has achieved a 78.3% germline testing rate — more than 11× the national average.

Their success came from choosing the right tools for their team — digital workflows that helped specialists and advanced practice providers work at the top of their license, and access to genetics expertise that filled the gaps where capacity was limited. The result: a practical, scalable model that brings prevention and early detection directly into oncology care.

In this session, Jennifer Lazzara, DNP, ARNP, CGRA, ARNP Supervisor at CCNW, will share how her team made this transformation possible. She’ll be joined by Breanna Roscow, MS, CGC, Medical Science Liaison | Certified Genetic Counselor at Myriad Genetics, to discuss how other oncology programs can build similar models to close the testing gap and expand access to prevention and early detection.

What you'll learn:
  • How to make germline genetic testing a seamless part of oncology workflows
  • How to equip oncologists and APPs to deliver testing confidently at the point of care
  • How leading oncology programs are choosing the right tools to close the loop and improve access
Join us for a practical discussion about how prevention and precision can finally come together — and how your oncology team can lead the way.
