About Hereditary Cancer Testing: Costs & Process

Learn more about the process of getting tested, including costs and what happens after your results are delivered.

What is the process of getting tested?

Because the MyRisk® test provides clinical results and guidance, you need to work with a healthcare provider to order the test and review its results with you. We have two easy options, depending on your access to an existing provider.

  1. Work with your own healthcare provider, such as a Primary Care or OB/GYN Provider. On our website, you can order a MyRisk kit at no charge and take it to your provider to finish the ordering process. This is a great option if you have a provider you plan to see in the next three months or so.
  2. If you don’t have an existing provider or won’t see one soon, our partnership with Genome Medical allows you access to online genetic healthcare providers from the comfort of your home for a consult fee as low as $42 (depending on your insurance).

How will I get my results?

Whether you use your own provider or virtual care, the healthcare provider that orders your tests can receive your results from us directly, so that they can share them with you. Your provider may also offer a post-test consultation to discuss your results and develop an action plan.

Lastly, how much does testing cost?

Your cost of hereditary cancer testing depends on several factors, including your insurance plan, your remaining deductible and your financial assistance eligibility. Before running your test, Myriad will contact you directly with a cost estimate after checking your insurance benefits and eligibility. Most patients have complete coverage for genetic testing, and about 90% pay $0 out-of-pocket. We know it’s scary to think about, and sometimes these strategies include big decisions like risk-reducing surgery. This can be life-changing information, and most patients are grateful for the answers they receive, so that they can take action in efforts to live longer, healthier lives.
